Police seek information following attempted murder

Police are appealing for witnesses following an attempted murder. The incident happened around 9.45pm on Thursday at the King’s Theatre on Tarvit Street.

A 41-year-old man standing in an alcove of the Kings Theatre when three men approached from Drumdryan Street. Two of the men then began to attack the victim with bladed weapons before all three made off back down Drumdryan Street.

The victim sustained a number of lacerations and puncture wounds to his body and was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he continues to be treated. His condition is not believed to be life threatening.

One man is currently detained in connection with this incident and officers are following a positive line of inquiry to identify the other attacker. However, anyone with information that can assist police with their investigation is asked to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Mark Lumsden from the Violence Reduction Unit said, “This has been a very violent assault, which left the victim with several painful injuries requiring medical attention.

“We are currently pursuing a number of lines of investigation to identify those responsible but are really keen to hear from anyone who was in or around Tarvit Street on Thursday evening and witnessed what happened.

“In addition, anyone with any further information relevant to our ongoing inquiries is also urged to contact police immediately.”
