Liam and friends take on Iceland cycle challenge

Icelandic challenge

The Scottish SPCA is delighted to support local Edinburgh man Liam Law while he takes on the epic 880 mile Iceland cycle challenge.

Scotland’s animal welfare charity is overwhelmed by the support Liam has shown the charity in the past four years, including taking on the Ben Nevis challenge.

Liam Law, owner of Xtreme Walkies dog walking company said, “I love taking part in these fundraising challenges. I think it’s important to support local charities and I’m excited to include the Scottish SPCA centre in Edinburgh in the list of charities we’re fundraising for again.

“I’ve taken part in a number of events to fundraise for the Society but this has proven to be the biggest challenge yet.

“Myself, Max Newcombe, Adam Welsh, David Lamb, Amber Karayel, Scott Van Schayk, Karly Watt and Nicol Benn are so excited to get stuck in and thought a cycle challenge would be a nice change from hill climbing!

“The nature of this challenge means we need to be incredibly organised. Food, petrol, camping materials, bike repair – anything could happen and we need to be prepared for it.

“We’re not professionals by any means – some of us only bought bikes in March! This challenge will see us completing 10 days of cycling, roughly 85 miles a day across Iceland so it’s no easy task.

“I think finding a driver for the event was the most difficult thing really. We’ve funded the entire challenge ourselves so every single penny raised will go directly to the charities we’re supporting.”

Scottish SPCA Centre Manager Diane Aitchson from Edinburgh Animal Rescue and Rehoming said, “This is an incredible effort from Liam and his friends. We receive no government or lottery funding so events like these are so important to help us continue rescuing abused, abandoned and injured animals across Scotland.

“We wish all of the guys the best of luck and can’t wait to hear how the cycle goes!”
