Going hungry in the school holidays is a harsh reality for many youngsters across the UK, and the All Party Parliamentary Group on Hunger recently warned that too many children have to survive on crisps and energy drinks when school kitchens are closed.
For the second year running, local aerospace engineering company Leonardo has teamed up with Forth One Radio’s Cash for Kids Charity to offer local youngsters some respite from these pressures, with a fun packed event which not only offered children a nutritious meal, but access to a host of educational activities to help them see a brighter future for themselves.
The fun-packed day took place on Friday at Leonardo’s Crewe Toll site.
The event was the brainchild of Leonardo PA Marie Cooper, who raised the idea with Leonardo’s Restaurant Manager to throw open the doors of their facilities to give kids a chance to have a carefree, fun experience that would allow them to have positive memories of their summer holidays. Getting a big thumbs up, Marie then contacted Emma Kemp, Charity Manager at Radio Forth Cash for Kids, who helped devise and a day of fun and educational activities.
Marie said: “Young people today have so much potential and talent, which they aren’t always able to realise due to the daily pressures they encounter. Emma and I wanted to create a fun day that would not only lift their spirits, but give them a new sense of certainty about their own potential.”
