The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after two pet rabbits were discovered at the side of the Society’s head office.
Scotland’s animal welfare charity was alerted on Saturday (10 June) after a member of staff spotted the animal carrier next to the charity’s headquarters in Dunfermline.
The pair are now in the care of the charity’s Edinburgh and Lothians Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre where they have been named Pixie and Frodo.
Animal Rescue Officer Kerry Burns said, “Pixie and Frodo were both very skinny and their coats were badly matted.
“To dump any animal in this way is cruel and callous and they would have been exposed to a potential dog or fox attack.
“We’re appealing to anyone in the area with information as to who may have owned these pets to contact us.
“We’ll continue to look after the pair until we can find them the home they deserve.”
Abandoning and causing an animal unnecessary suffering is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006 and anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.
