The SUBWAY® brand is pleased to announce the SUBWAY Helping Hearts™ Family 5K Fun Run series is returning for its fifth year after a record breaking 2016! The 5K series is bouncing to Edinburgh for the second of nine events taking place throughout the UK from May to September.
The series will again run in partnership with the national charity Heart Research UK, and is part of the SUBWAY® brand’s efforts to encourage families to live healthier and more active lifestyles together.
Families in the Edinburgh region can join in on the fun at Holyrood Park on 4th June! All ages and levels of running expertise are invited to participate.
The 5K series takes a twist on the traditional 5K run by including the “Field of Fresh” challenge for the last 500m before the finish line. Participants are encouraged to tackle the giant inflatable course, inspired by the SUBWAY® menu, which has been designed to appeal to kids and adults alike. Those not wishing to bounce through to the finish line can follow the traditional 5K route.
The family fun doesn’t just end at the finish line; families can also relax in the Family Village open from 10:30am – 2pm. The Family Village includes face-painting, music, more inflatable fun for children, and games for the whole family to enjoy.
Children under 12 years old can participate for free, and it’s just £7 for all other participants that register in advance online! Included within the registration, all participants will receive a FREE T-Shirt, a FREE SUBWAY® lunch, a finisher’s medal and access to the Family Village! All funds raised will be donated directly to Heart Research UK and the SUBWAY® Healthy Heart grant scheme, an initiative providing up to £10,000 each to local projects throughout the UK that actively promote heart health in the community.

Sacha Clark, Marketing Director for the SUBWAY® brand in UK and Ireland, said about the series return, “We are delighted to announce that the SUBWAY Helping Hearts™ Family 5K series is returning for 2017, in aid of our partner Heart Research UK. It is fantastic to see the series growing, and we cannot wait to see more families supporting healthy heart programmes in their communities. The SUBWAY® brand is committed to encouraging a healthy lifestyle, and the series provides a great way for families to participate together.”
Barbara Harpham, Chief Executive of Heart Research UK commented “The charity partnership between Heart Research UK and the SUBWAY® brand has been the perfect way to raise awareness of the importance of heart health. Over 2.3 million people live with coronary heart disease every day and it is still the UK’s single biggest killer. The massive £860k raised has given 78 local organisations the opportunity to help their own communities with innovative Healthy Heart projects. Nearly 60,000 more people of all ages across the UK are aware of the importance of heart health and SUBWAY Helping Hearts™ Family 5K series is the perfect way to involve even more. The SUBWAY® brand has been a shining light in helping people live healthier, happier, longer lives.”
