More than 200 people attend granton:hub Open Weekend

Over 200 visitors attended granton:hub’s Open Weekend – keen to try their hand at a wide-range of workshops and activities, whilst finding out more about the history of the area and what the group has planned for the future.

The event was organised to celebrate the group’s five-year, rent-free, lease agreement with the EDI Group for the ground floor of the former Madelvic Motor Company HQ. With a long-term home now secured, granton:hub was keen to give a taster of the future events and workshops that will be taking place, with visitors from Edinburgh and beyond keen to show their support.

Along with taking part in a range of taster sessions, visitors were encouraged to learn more about the history of the area, as well as playing their part in creating the new Madelvic House Community Garden. Following this Open Weekend, granton:hub will now press ahead will its first full-time events programme, Madelvic:May, with the local community and interested parties encouraged to take a look at what’s on offer.

Speaking following the Open Weekend, Wendy Wager (above, left), chair of the granton:hub Steering Group said“Following such a fantastic weekend, I would like to thank everyone who attended and made the event such a success. granton:hub has always been about creating a thriving cultural centre for the benefit of the community, and for so many to join us over the two-days is a real sign of the appetite that exists for what we’re trying to achieve.

“With our May programme of events now in full-swing, I would encourage anyone wanting to find out more to visit our website and play their part in creating something really special right here in Granton.”

Madelvic:May, the group’s first full-time events programme, will bring together a wide-range of events and workshops, including painting classes, mask making and yoga. These activities are open to the whole community and beyond, with spaces limited and going fast.

With the local residents also encouraged to join in with the new community garden, as well as taking part in the local walking history tours, May is already gearing up to be an action-packed month at granton:hub!
