An Edinburgh student who has lived with Type 1 diabetes for almost a decade is organising a Ceilidh with a Twist to raise money for Diabetes UK.
Lisa Garrett, 18, (above)is part of a team of students from Edinburgh College hosting the special event on Friday (24 February) at Lauriston Hall. The Scottish ceilidh will be given a country and western twist with traditional tartans paired with cowboy boots and Stetsons!
Live music will be provided by Edinburgh band Wild Geese.
Lisa said: “We’re really looked forward to our Ceilidh with a Twist in aid of Diabetes UK. We have booked Wild Geese who are a fantastic band and have already sold a lot of tickets. It’s going to be a great night and there will be plenty of opportunities to win some excellent prizes!
“I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when I was nine years old and most of the time I don’t let it get in the way of me doing what I want to do. However, occasionally I don’t have choice as there have been some times when my blood sugars were uncontrollable and I had to seek urgent medical attention which was quite scary.
“Living with the condition is not easy and you don’t get a day off. That’s why we’re fundraising for Diabetes UK as the charity supports people living with a condition and also funds research towards better treatments and, eventually, a cure.”
The Ceilidh with a Twist kicks off at 7pm with live music, dancing, and raffles until 10.30pm. Tickets cost £9.
