Common Weal has launched a national campaign coalition to replace Private Public Partnerships (PPP) with a more sustainable Public Public Partnership.
Protect our Future is a joint campaign and Common Weal’s partners are Unison Scotland, Unite Scotland, The New Economics Foundation, Debt Resistance UK, People vs PFI, Jubilee Scotland and the People’s Health Movement Scotland.
The campaign is calling for other ways to fund our public services and capital projects. From legally challenging our current contracts to building a Scottish National Investment Bank to setting up local bond schemes, the campaign seeks to promote the alternatives which will end the drain of public finances as a result of private profiteering.
This coincides with the release of Common Weal’s new groundbreaking paperBuilding Scotland’s Future Now. The report advocates combination of Scottish National Investment Bank and Scottish National Investment Company to lead a new public investment strategy.
Ben Wray, head of policy at Common Weal said: “Paying excessive debt interest to private companies is not sustainable and is not necessary. We hope through this report and through the launch of the new campaign, Protect our Future, we can get this message across to the Scottish Government and convince them to act.”
