Dragons ‘non’ to Lingotot

Lingotot, which teaches dozens of pre and primary school aged children across Edinburgh, appeared in the formidable Dragons’ Den last night (Sunday 5th February), but on this occasion the Dragons said ‘non’.

Whilst it was a ‘non’ to investment, it was a resounding ‘sí ’ to the language business itself which is owner-managed in Edinburgh by Giselle Dominguez and provides classes in Broughton and  Leith to children as young as 6 months old.

Up and down the country Lingotot teaches 10,000 children each week to speak a range of modern foreign languages including French, Spanish, German, Arabic and Mandarin and here in Edinburgh the number of children grows month on month.

Lingotot founder, Angela Sterling entered the Den – together with a handful of Lingotot students -looking for investment to fuel ambitious international growth plans but walked away without the £50,000 investment she had initially asked for yet.

Giselle Dominguez, who has operated her successful Lingotot business since last year said: “It was lovely to see some of our children singing the popular Lingotot welcome song that we sing at all of our classes and I have no doubt that their singing will have gone a long way to calm the nerves and bring a sense of balance in to the den.

“Singing forms a key part of our classes as we know that young children learn a huge amount through song and interactive actions, but to sing in four different languages and in front of those dragons and TV cameras is quite an achievement!

“Whilst we didn’t secure the investment we asked for, the show definitely highlighted just how important it is to start teaching languages at a young age and what young children are capable of.”
