Mum attacked and robbed in West Pilton

A mother has been assaulted and robbed as she was walking home with her two young children on Friday afternoon. She was walking along Ferry Road Avenue with her children in a double buggy when the ‘cowardly’ attack took place.

The  woman was walking along Ferry Road Avenue at about 4.30pm when she was approached and attacked by two men, who stole a four figure sum. She was treated for minor facial injuries by an ambulance crew at the scene. The children were not harmed in the incident.

Police said the attack, which caused the woman to fall to the ground, happened as the woman stopped to tend to her children in the buggy. Her handbag, which had been resting on the handle of her buggy, was taken and the pair ran off.

The 33-year-old’s bag was a black Primark ‘Atmosphere’ faux leather bag with a sloping top with suede on both sides and a gold bar.  It contained a number of items including a four figure sum of cash and baby feeding equipment.

The first suspect is described as male white, athletic build, late teens to early twenties and is around 5ft 5” to 5ft 9” in height. He was wearing a dark hooded top with dark jogging bottoms and two-tone Nike Air Max trainers. He was also wearing a dark face covering.

The second suspect was also male white, in his late teens to early twenties, slim build and is around 5ft 4” to 5ft 8” in height.  He was also wearing a dark hooded top.

Detective Constable Gavin Howat of Edinburgh CID’s Violence Reduction Unit said:  “This was a cowardly attack on a woman with her two young children. Thankfully she only sustained a minor injury and her children were unharmed, nevertheless she has been left extremely distressed by this incident.

“We believe that two young men in their late teen to early twenties are responsible for this attack and we are eager to trace them.

“I would ask that anyone who has any information about this attack, or who was in the Ferry Road Avenue area on Friday 16th December around 4-5pm and saw the incident take place, or who saw anyone acting supiciously to please get in touch with us immediately.”
