Woman in court following New Town incident

Police in Edinburgh have arrested a 48-year-old woman following an incident in the Stockbridge area. She was subsequently reported to the Procurator Fiscal and appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Friday.

Officers were called to a house in Danube Street around 1.35am on Wednesday (7 December). An eight-year-old girl was found with serious injuries and taken to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children.

A 48-year-old woman was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary after also being found seriously injured within the address. The woman, who is believed to be the little girl’s mother, was reported to the Procurator Fiscal and appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Friday.

Detective Inspector Paul Grainger of Corstorphine CID said: “I want to take this opportunity to commend staff at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children for their tremendous medical efforts so far.

“Thankfully, the girl is now described as being in a stable condition and specialist detectives continue to support her family.

“A 48-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with this incident and we’re not looking for anyone else as part of our enquiries.

“Our thoughts remain with the young girl and her family, who have asked that their privacy is respected at this incredibly difficult time.”
