The mother of missing French student Antoine Maury has confirmed that his body has been found in Duddingston Loch.

Antoine, 21, was last seen over a month ago. He disappeared after suddenly leaving a group of friends on the evening of Monday 24 October. A man matching Antoine’s description was later seen near the loch wearing no top.

Antoine’s body was recovered from Duddingston Loch after emergency services were alerted by a member of the public on Thurday.

Antoine’s mother Laura used Facebook to thank the many people who helped in the search for Antoine and for the messages of support the family has received since her son’s disappearance.

She said: “For all of you out there and particularly to all of Antoine’s, older and more previous friends. My beloved sons body was recovered in the Duddingston Loch earlier this morning. Antoine would had turned 22 on the 31st of December this year. Thank you all for your help and support during the last 5 and 1/2 weeks. God bless you all.”
