Parents and carers are being urged to find out more about the exciting education on offer at their local primary school as part of the annual open day event this week. Every primary school in Edinburgh will be opening their doors to prospective parents and carers with pre-school age children on Wednesday.
The aim is to give them the opportunity to have a look round and learn more about their catchment school.
The Council have been running their successful Primary Schools Open Day event for several years to encourage families to send their children to their local catchment school as primary rolls across the city increase.
At the start of the 2015/16 session there were 28,804 primary school pupils however this is predicted to rise to 31,300 pupils by 2020 and then increase further to an estimated 35,400 pupils by 2030.
Last year the number of appeals put forward by parents requesting a placement at an out of catchment school fell to a record low of 152.
Councillor Cammy Day, the new Education, Children & Families Convener for the City of Edinburgh Council, said: “I would encourage all parents with pre-school age children to take this opportunity on Wednesday to visit their local catchment school where they will find out more about the school and all the fantastic learning on offer.
“It’s a valuable opportunity to see their school in action for themselves and staff will be on hand to show the great work taking place. Primary Schools Open Day is always a great success and the feedback from staff and parents is always very positive. Sending your children to your local school can have many benefits for parents, children and the community where you live.”
Any parents or carers with children under pre-school age children are welcome to attend and parents who may be thinking of moving into an area may also find it useful. There’s no need to make an appointment – just go along to your catchment school during the open hours or for the start of one of their conducted tours.
