Book Week Scotland is taking place Monday 21 – Sunday 27 November 2016 and audiences across Scotland can take part in a national celebration of books and reading, with hundreds of free events and fun reading activities happening across the country – and there’s lots to enjoy in Edinburgh!
Booklovers can get involved by voting for their favourite http://scottishbooktrust.com/reading/book-week-scotland/scottish-book-to-screen-vote, challenge themselves or a friend to a #ReadingDare and during the week, a brand new Book Generator quiz will be available on http://www.scottishbooktrust.com/book-week-scotland, enabling participants to uncover the perfect book match for themselves or the ideal present for a friend.

Night shadows: An evening of songs, readings and stories inspired by the Gothic tradition

Explore the horror, romance, and darkness of Gothic tradition, through music and the spoken word. The journey takes us from the dark Scottish ‘neuks’ of James Hogg and Robert Louis Stevenson, over windswept English moorland, across to foreboding labyrinths of old Germanic forests. The event features songs and music by Helen Clark, inspired by fiction from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstei’ to Sarah Waters’ Fingersmith. Associated tales, readings and poems are delivered by master storyteller David Campbell.

Book Week Scotland’s Map Day. In celebration of the Library’s maps exhibition ‘You are Here’, an expert panel discuss the fascinating and incredible history of mapping Scotland’s islands. The panel includes the Library’s Senior Maps Curator Chris Fleet, Geographer Royal for Scotland Charles Withers, and Convener of the Collections Committee of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society Margaret Wilkes.
