A large gang of youths have attacked and robbed a man after chasing him through West Pilton Park. It’s understood that as many as fifteen youths were involved in the incident on Saturday evening.

The 22-year-old victim was walking across the playground in West Pilton on Saturday at about 9pm when between ten and 15 youths started shouting at him and threatened him with a bottle. The gang – both boys and girls aged between 13-16 – chased the man. They caught him in West Pilton March and assaulted the man before stealing his wallet and making off. Some of the teenagers were on bikes.

Fortunately, the victim’s injuries were not serious.

The male teenager, who first threatened the victim with a bottle, is white, of medium build with short blond hair. He was wearing a grey t-shirt with black sleeves and Nike logo across the front.

Detective Constable Ross Nicol, of Police Scotland, said: “This group targeted a lone man and subjected him to a vicious attack. We are eager to trace the young people involved in this incident, particularly the male who threatened the victim with a weapon. I would urge anyone who was in the West Pilton area on the evening of Saturday, October 22, and saw anything suspicious, to get in touch with us immediately.”

Call 101 for non-emergencies and general enquiries. If you have information about the crime you can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
