Constructive talks on motorbike problem

Police, politicians and community representatives met at Drylaw Police Station yesterday to discuss ongoing problems with joyriding and associated antisocial behaviour in North Edinburgh.

Ben Macpherson, MSP for Edinburgh Northern and Leith, attended the meeting. He said: “It was good to be at today’s meeting with other elected members, stakeholders and the police. There are, of course, other initiatives like Stronger North that have made a difference on this matter and I think today’s meeting can add to the work already being undertaken.

“The issues of anti-social and dangerous motorbike joyriding are, of course, of great concern within the community. Today’s meeting discussed ways to support the police, raise the matter at parliamentary level and how as a community, with input from all groups, we can discourage this behaviour now and in the future.

“I continue to emphasise the request from the police to keep reporting any incidents of anti-social behaviour. As we move forward, I look forward to playing my full part at future meetings and helping to address the issue collectively and constructively.”

Edinburgh Western MSP Alex Cole-Hamilton, who chaired the ‘summit’, said the meeting was ‘the first of many’.

The local MSPs will be raising the issue with the Scottish Government and in parliament after the parliamentary recess.
