The BFI Film Academy and Screen Education Edinburgh are offering an intensive course in filmmaking for 16-19 year olds who live in the South East of Scotland.
Jointly funded in Scotland by Creative Scotland and the British Film Institute, the BFI Film Academy aims to help train and inspire the next generation of British filmmakers, supporting talented and committed young people aged 16-19 to develop the commercial and cultural knowledge and skills to help make a career in film a reality.
We are looking for young people with a passion for film and looking to make a career out of the film industry.
Starting over the weekend of the 4th and the 5th of November and running until the 22nd January, participants will receive a comprehensive training in storytelling, production, sound recording, directing, editing and camera and will shoot and edit their own short film.
They will meet and receive masterclasses from people working within the film industry, including Brian Kirk (who has worked as a Director on a variety of TV shows, including Game of Thrones, Dexter, Boardwalk Empire and Penny Dreadful), Kieran Hannigan (Executive Producer at River City), writer/ director Maria MacIndoo and Tom Wilton, founder of New York’s Bootleg Film Festival and director of the Inde hit ‘Let it Go’.
They will also work towards the completion of the BFI/ Creative Skillset qualification ‘Preparing to work in the Film Industry’ and will receive career advice and support in building up their CV.
Past participants have progressed onto studying film at college or university, so for those looking to take their first tentative steps into the film industry, this is the starting point.
The BFI Film Academy is open to all young people in the South East of Scotland, an area covering Edinburgh, Fife, the Forth Valley, the Lothians and the Borders. The fee for the course is £25, though bursaries are available for those struggling to pay.
Application are now open and we are looking for young people with the passion and drive to make it in the film industry. The deadline for applications is the 23rd October.
