Animal lovers in Edinburgh and the Lothians are being invited to experience the trip of a lifetime to Madagascar while raising vital funds for the Scottish SPCA.
The exciting trek will take adventurers to the remote island, where they can get up close to African wildlife while helping abused, abandoned and injured animals in Scotland. The route will take trekkers to the spectacular valleys and ridges of Andringitra National Park, where the goal is Pic Boby (2658m), Madagascar’s second-highest mountain.
Diane Aitchison, manager of the Scottish SPCA’s Balerno Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre, said, “This really is a fantastic way for people to get involved and help animals in their local community. From canyons and gorges to bush covered plains, dense forests, and the summit of the island’s highest accessible mountain peak, this is a unique and highly varied trek steeped in natural beauty.
“Madagascar is an adventurous destination, with rough roads making travelling distances long. The rewards more than make up for the efforts of seeing the country – this is a truly unforgettable trek.
“The trip will be led by seasoned trek leaders selected for their experience in harsh wilderness environments, knowledge of travel in remote areas, friendliness and sense of humour. It’s a great way for people to travel somewhere they’ve never been before while making a real difference to the lives of abused, abandoned and injured animals in Edinburgh and the Lothians.
“There is a registration fee for the trip as well as a minimum fundraising target and we’ll do everything we can to help people meet their goal. We’d love to hear from anyone interested in taking part in this exciting challenge and we’ve no doubt that those who sign up will never forget their experience.”
The 2017-2018 dates are now open for this incredible once in a lifetime challenge.
