LUMINATE: community buildings, building communities

BUILDING on the success of the 2015 Photography Challenge, this year Luminate, Scotland’s Creative Ageing Festival, is joining forces with Stills Centre for Photography on a challenge for older photographers. Taking inspiration from the Festival of Architecture. it invites you to photograph a building that has played an important part in your own life or the life of your community.

Luminate is looking for architectural pictures that go beyond the traditional postcards. Capture the spirit of the building and tell us about its connection with you and your community.

It would like you to photograph a building that is very personal to you. Over the years, our cities and towns have been rebuilt, reimagined and redesigned and in the process some historic, traditional buildings are preserved, but many are demolished and exist only through memory and archive.

The building you choose to photograph can be a home, workplace, a place of worship, or a building you visit. It can be an older building, a new building or a building facing demolition.

The photographer, Chris Leslie, has been commissioned to shoot some architectural photographs as inspiration, which he has shared along with some helpful hints and tips on approaching photography.

A judging panel will select a range of submissions to be exhibited across Scotland, as well as being exhibited alongside Chris Leslie’s work at Stills, Centre for Photography, Edinburgh in October. Selected images will also be shared online on Luminate’s website.

Deadline for submissions is Monday 5 September and full details of how to enter can be found on www.luminatescotland.org or call 0131 668 8066.
