Two grand for Granton!

STV Appeal supports Granton Youth Centre

Granton Youth Centre has received £2,000 from the STV Children’s Appeal to boost financial support for the local project. The grant will support GYC’s Big Obstacle event.

Based on West Granton Road, Centre staff use a combination of youth work, informal learning and volunteering programmes to positively impact the lives of 12-25 year olds.

Young people, through accredited volunteering, will be involved in the planning, delivery and evaluation of The Big Obstacle Fun Run, an event linking local young people in clubs and organisations to promote their work and support their activities through sponsorship.

Natasha Iregbu, Aspire Team Leader of GYC said:  “This will be the second year we have been able to carry out this important opportunity for local groups to raise awareness and money, providing much needed financial resources for local clubs, organisations and programmes throughout the North Edinburgh and Inverleith areas.

“The Big Obstacle Fun Run will involve local young people in the planning and delivery of the event, as well as the decision on how the finances raised can benefit their local clubs and organisations.’’

Since launch in 2011, the STV Children’s Appeal has raised over £11 million with 476 big and small grants distributed to projects across all 32 local authority areas in Scotland, providing much needed support to over 59,000 children. The money raised is distributed to provide practical help like food and warm clothes; create opportunities for training and employability; and enable social and emotional support for those who need it most.
