Agnieszka and Kyle are ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ list students!
Two Edinburgh College Graphic Design students will enjoy a well-deserved good night’s rest after coming runners up in a UK-wide competition to help promote better sleep.
Agnieszka Pomoranska and Kyle Lamond, who both study on the NC Graphic Design course at the college, have won the £500 second prize for their entry to the UK Better Sleep Competition. The competition, run by The Sleep Council, tasked students across the country with creating a campaign to promote better sleep and improve public awareness about the impact of sleep on healthy lifestyles.
Kyle and Agnieszka worked as a team to produce a campaign, including poster and advert ideas, as well as a short video. They based their campaign on the slogan ‘Luv8’, which promoted eight hours sleep in order to feel happy and healthy. They chose to target young adults aged 18-25 who are studying or in work and lead a fast-paced lifestyle.
Agnieska said: “This is the first time I’ve taken part in a competition of this kind so I was very surprised and pleased to take second place. We’ve only been on the NC since September so to already get recognition just feels amazing.”
The entries were judged by an expert panel including professionals from the UK advertising industry and health sector.
Lisa Artis, PR and Marketing Officer for The Sleep Council, was one of the four on the panel. She said: “What the judges loved about this entry was that it was a well-thought-out and well-executed concept. The catchy slogan was supported by great, relatable graphics and core messages that hit the brief. It was a close call between the top three and Aga and Kyle’s entry was a well-deserved runner up.”
Helena Good, graphic design lecturer, said: “Aga and Kyle developed their campaign across a variety of media showing a strong understanding of the discipline. They are two very talented and capable students with bright futures ahead of them. Their win has inspired their class and staff alike.”
