Brave wee Kai loses fight for life

Brave wee Kai Laidlaw has died. The local three year old fought leukaemia twice in his short life – he was first diagnosed in September 2013, when he was only eight months old.

Today’s Muirhouse Minis mother and toddlers session at Muirhouse Millennium Community Centre has been cancelled as a mark of respect.

A heartbreaking post on a Facebook page set up for Kai revealed that he had taken a turn for the worse at the weekend. The post read: “This is not an easy post to write but on Friday I returned to Edinburgh Sick Kids, I have became very poorly and Mummy and Daddy wanted to bring me home to be surrounded by love, family and friends.

“My wee body is tired and Mr Leukaemia has upped his game and my body has taken a beating. A lot of my organs are feeling the strain of nearly two and a half years of treatment and the signs are showing.”

It’s absolutely devastating news and our deepest sympathy goes out to Kai’s family and many friends in the wider community.
