Blue conifers stands proud as the Garden Plant of the Month in January, and will also be in the spotlight all month on Thejoyofplants.co.uk.
Just when many garden plants are still in a deep slumber, and leafy greens still lacking, blue conifers provide a pleasant atmosphere. Even a few conifers can bring lovely hues of blue to the garden, terrace or balcony in an instant.
Garden plants Campaign 2016
Garden Plant of the Month is part of the PR campaign for garden plants. The aim is to reach as many consumers every month and to inspire to apply more green in the garden, on the balcony or terrace. With so many gardens disappearing and home-owners paving over their gardens in favour of maintenance, it is expected that many magazines, newspapers, websites and bloggers will pay attention to the Garden Plant of the Month as we all strive to keep Britain green! It is also a known fact that greenery will help maintain and keep the temperatures down in the summer months.
More conifer
Conifer is a collective term for spruce, cypress and juniper. One gets plenty of fruits, and the other has dark green or blue needles. Some grow meters high, while others remain compact and low. The blue juniper (Juniperus squamata ‘Blue Star’), for example, can stretch up to 50cm. Therefore, this ‘Blue Star’ is ideal to plant at the front of the border, or in pots on the garden table or staging display. Other blue conifers that are very suitable for the garden are the blue spruce (Picea pungens’ Super Blue), Chinese juniper (Juniperus chinensis stricta) and the conical dwarf Cypress (Chamaecyparis Ellwoodii).
More information about conifers will be available on Thejoyofplants.co.uk in January, along with information about many other garden plants.
