FOLLOWING a hectic year of social enterprise engagements, Edinburgh Social Enterprise Network’s mascot Dougie Goodstuff reflects on the past year:

2015 saw Doogie and friends launching the ‘Buy the Good Stuff‘ sticker campaign at the Punjabi Junction café bistro in Leith; making guest stage appearances at the Fringe; creating probably the world’s biggest jeely piece in Waverley station, closely followed by his ‘reuse’ exploits on Leith Walk this month and celebrating the launch of the social enterprise report showing a significant upward trend in the sector.

Linsay Chalmers, ESEN network coordinator, said: “This has indeed been a great year for Doogie Goodstuff who has been a great hit throughout Edinburgh with many visitors and children alike and has drawn a lot of interest in Waverley Station, Leith Walk and at RBS Gogarburn for our social enterprise businesses in the city.

“And more good news for Doogie this year as he progressed from his two-dimensional persona to his current cuddly 3D image this Summer.

Linsay added: “Doogie will be starting the new year off with another round of lively and fun stunts from January onwards, so we will be keeping all of his followers fully informed.

“Doogie is now setting out his stall for his social enterprise predictions and resolutions in 2016 and we have included some below.”

Predictions:

There will be a bigger following of social enterprises in the city in 2016.

More people will embrace social enterprise and make it part of their daily lives in the city as the ‘Buy The Good Stuff’ campaign rolls into its third year.

Doogie predicts a guest appearance in St Andrews Square with the help of ESEN this Summer during the return of Social In the Square.

Doogie predicts a place on ‘The Voice’ if his singing skills improve with the help of Dad’s Rock.

Doogie predicts a bigger involvement in fashion this spring – with recycling traditional fabrics at the fore.

Resolutions:

Health – Eat more healthily and enjoy low fat Punjabi Junction meals more often.

Wealth – Find out more about upcycling from Remade In Edinburgh.

Wellbeing – Help people feel better on Blue Monday by encouraging them to fill in a giant doodle of me – watch out for more on this soon.

Creative – Learn some new crafts at Whale Art.

Sport – To meet the other monster mascots (led by Doogie) for a penalty kick-off with Hibs, Hearts and Spartans.

Volunteer at 2016 Festival of Cycling.
