Craigleith Homebase is among first in the country to host new kitchen range

Home and garden expert Homebase has teamed up with Country Living and House Beautiful magazines, published by Hearst UK, to create an exclusive range of kitchen designs – and Homebase Edinburgh Craigleith is amongst the first stores in the country to be fitted with this new and exciting range.

The collection consists of two Country Living kitchens and four House Beautiful kitchens. It brings together stylish designs, inspirational colours and trends with the practical, functional requirements customers need today in a kitchen that’s often used in a multitude of ways.

Both design ranges are made in Yorkshire, and the units in the Country Living range are hand painted making it easier for the customer to request a more tailored, unique style and design, without compromising on clever storage designs.

Ian Penney, Room Solutions Business Unit Director for Homebase, says: “Kitchens are often at the centre of any home, and even more so today as they can be an office, a school and a zoom-hub as well as somewhere to cook and eat!

” The Country Living and House Beautiful ranges, along with our expert kitchen designers who provide virtual kitchen consultations, can help customers find a style, design and functionality that suits their way of living today without compromise, to deliver them a kitchen of their dreams.”

The Country Living range

The Country Living range comprises of two designs – The Country Living Whitstable which takes its influence from the popular ‘Shaker’ kitchen design, but with subtle modern touches such as adding copper coloured handles to darker units, to create a more modern yet timeless British-inspired design.

Inspired by nature and named after British coastal towns, the range represents a more relaxed and simpler way of living, which embodies the ethos of the Country Living way of life.

The Country Living Whitstable in emerald green with copper coloured handles gives a modern look to a timeless classic design.

The Country Living Hastings kitchen has its design roots firmly in the farmhouse, countryside designs and is the epitome of English country chic. This kitchen mixes traditional styles with modern space saving ideas, offering the customer large larder cupboards and deep pan draws making it a very practical kitchen with a cosy feel

The Country Living Hastings is available in three natural colours: milk, biscuit and clotted cream.

The House Beautiful Kitchen Range

The four House Beautiful kitchens are well suited to today’s modern living. They’re beautifully modern, sleek, on-trend and incorporate a range of smart technology options. They also offer clever storage designs and soft close cupboards and drawers that can cope with the demands of any busy, family household.

The handleless House Beautiful Islington kitchen has a modern and elegant streamlined look, which is especially in the darker shades such as this Cocoa and Gunmetal with Copper Trim.

House Beautiful Islington makes a striking statement with its handleless doors and dark Cocoa cupboards, giving any kitchen a modern, sleek look.

The House Beautiful Camberwell is a contemporary style kitchen, blending high gloss doors with matt wood to create an ultra-modern finish. It’s a versatile design, as it has a wide range of finishes and handles that can be mixed and matched to complete the look. The range is available in six neutral tones that keep the style modern and sophisticated and offers plenty of storage options hidden away behind its sleek exterior.

The House Beautiful Camberwell is available in six different shades: oyster, snow, mist, soft stone, milk and driftwood

The House Beautiful Bermondsey comes in a choice of five, high gloss neutral colours which go towards giving it a more relaxed, easy going look.  It’s available in the following shades: chalk, soft ivory, clay, ash and slate.

This kitchen can be easily mixed and matched with its integrated handles and unit colours creating more look options.

The House Beautiful Westbourne has fused together the best of the classic ‘Shaker’ style with some very modern features, including integrated handles. Together with its differing paint options including a matt finish, this is a bespoke kitchen that can truly be tailored to any style and any space of kitchen.

Customers can choose to browse The Country Living and House Beautiful kitchens the instore or online. Following the fundraising success for the Scottish Poppy Appeal, customers can make their donation go further this year at their local Sainsbury’s. The Blackhall store are providing a recycling service to support Poppyscotland.

Between 12th and 24th November, customers can choose to recycle their poppies via an in-store collection point. A poppy recycling box will be available at the Blackhall Customer Service Desk. All collected poppies will go back to Poppyscotland to enable them to re-use or recycle them.

Sainsbury’s is the only retailer providing this unique service to support the local environment and provide further support to Poppyscotland.

In June 2011, The Royal British Legion merged with Poppyscotland to form the largest charity group supporting the Armed Forces community across the whole of the UK. Poppyscotland continues to operate as a distinct charity within the Legion’s group of charities, and is responsible for running the Scottish Poppy Appeal, which raises over £2m each year.

Sainsbury’s Store Manager George Paton said: “The Scottish Poppy Appeal was a great success this year for fundraising and we’d like to thank everyone who contributed. With this recycling initiative, we wanted to show our customers another way they can support Poppyscotland to ensure their poppies don’t go to waste. We hope the recycling drive proves a success with our Blackhall customers”.

Sally McNaught, Deputy Head of Fundraising at Poppyscotland added: “We’re delighted to be working with Sainsbury’s again on this recycling initiative. The donated poppies will either be re-used or re-cycled. Its another great way for customers to support poppyscotland.”

Masked men raid family home in Crewe Road South

police (2)Police are appealing for information following an armed robbery in Crewe Road South during the night. Four armed men wearing masks broke into a house just before 2am and attacked a terrified Chinese couple and their ten-year-old son. The raiders – who spoke with Scottish accents – escaped with a four-figure-sum of cash and jewellery.

Police are carrying out inquiries in the area and have increased high-visibility patrols in Craigleith.

Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Houston, who is leading the investigation, said: “The occupants of the house were awoken in the night to four masked intruders, who threatened them with a weapon and demanded cash. This was obviously a terrifying experience for them, and we are looking for any information to help us trace those responsible.

“I would be particularly keen to trace the drivers or occupants of any vehicles that were within the area at the time of the incident.

“We don’t have a clear description of the men as they were wearing masks, but they were all wearing dark clothing, and we are working to establish further details.”

If you have any information please call Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Vouchers can be earned for every £10 spent in main stores, in petrol stations and when you buy groceries online and for every £5 in convenience stores (exclusions apply). Vouchers will be issued  until 22 May.

David Bainbridge, Sainsbury’s Blackhall Store Manager said: “It’s important to help keep children enthused about all different kinds of activities – from play to sport – and we’re confident that Active Kids 2013 will help achieve this goal.”

Take part in Sainsbury’s ‘Million Meal Appeal’ this weekend

Sainsbury’s Blackhall colleagues are encouraging residents to help tackle food poverty this October by taking part in a nationwide food-drive run by Sainsbury’s and FareShare, the national charity tackling hunger across the UK. The second annual Million Meal Appeal takes place this weekend on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th October and will benefit more than 700 charities and projects across the UK.

Last year’s ‘Million Meal Appeal’, which took place on Saturday 26th November, was a huge success and involved 600 Sainsbury’s stores including Blackhall. Thanks to customers’ generosity, together with Sainsbury’s pledge to match donations, FareShare could deliver food for over 1.2 million meals to 700 charities and community projects it supports. Blackhall residents’ contribution was significant, with enough food collected at the retailer’s Blackhall store to provide 4000 donations to charities across the UK  including Granton Youth Centre.

This year’s appeal will see over 900 stores involved in the two-day food-drive to help 720 charities and community projects which FareShare supports. Customers will again be able to choose to donate an item from the Million Meal Appeal shopping list which consists of long-life products including tinned goods, dried pasta, pasta sauce, rice, tea and instant coffee. The items are purchased as normal and then placed in the collection box after checkout. Customers shopping on Sainsbury’s Online can also choose to make a £1 donation between 3 – 9 October.

Sainsbury’s Community Affairs Manager Andy White said: “We had such an overwhelming response from our customers to last year’s initiative and we’re excited to be working with FareShare on the second ‘Million Meal Appeal’.  The total of 1.2 million meals donated in 2011 would be enough to feed a sold-out London Olympic stadium 15 times! We hope from this year’s campaign that we can further raise the awareness of food poverty in the UK and support those charities and projects that need our help.”

Assisting in the food drive will be local volunteers who are currently being recruited by FareShare. Potential volunteers are encouraged to visit www.fareshare.org.uk with their family and friends to register. Participants will be able to choose their preferred Sainsbury’s store to volunteer at and have the choice of a morning or afternoon shift.

Lindsay Boswell, CEO, FareShare, added: “The Million Meal Appeal has come at a crucial time. Around 5.8 million people live in deep poverty in the UK, meaning they struggle to afford everyday essentials like food. I hope many Sainsbury’s Blackhall customers can support the Appeal and help us to provide even more food to the charities and community projects we support across the country”.
