Medieval stones stolen from city hospital

The City of Edinburgh Council and NHS Lothian have appealed for help following the theft of late-medieval masonry from the Grange area. A pair of 600-year-old architectural carved bosses – thought to have adorned the original Trinity Collegiate Church – have been stolen from the grounds of Astley Ainslie Hospital. Fewer than two thousand engage in city budget consultation

With the ongoing debate about the state of Scotland’s public services high on the agenda, you might have thought that angry council tax payers would be desperate to have their say on budget proposals. However in Edinburgh – where the population is steadily increasing towards half a million residents – only 2000 citizens took part in the city council’s budget consultation.

Homes and businesses across 11 local authority areas will be warmer and cheaper to heat thanks to over £9 million of Scottish Government funding. Edinburgh will receive over £1 million.
