Police seek witnesses to Muirhouse motorcycle collision

Police are appealing for witnesses after a family were taken to hospital following a crash involving a stolen Yamaha motorbike in Muirhouse on Saturday.

The 20-year-old motorcycle rider suffered serious injuries in the crash which happened in Muirhouse Parkway at about 6pm.

Three children aged eight, nine and 15, who were passengers in the Nissan Juke car, were taken to hospital.

Anyone who witnessed this, or who has information which could be relevant, is asked to contact Police Scotland via 101 and quote incident 3408 of 17th August.

Local Lib Dem councillors Kevin Lang and Louise Young said: “The volume of motorcycle incidents across our has significantly decreased this year compared to previous years. However, incidents such as this show why we need to keep focusing on tackling the issue.

“We always encourage local residents to come forward and report instances of bikes being ridden in a dangerous and/or antisocial manner. The police also need to know the location of hidden stolen bikes. It is making a difference and enabling the police to take enforcement action.”

Readers will recall that a ten year old local boy was seriously injured in a motorcycle hit and run on Ferry Road on 19 August 2017 – almost two years ago to the day (pictured). Two men were jailed following the incident.
