FetLor burglary: community rallies to youth club’s aid

An appeal for financial support following a break-in at Fet Lor Youth Club is well on to meeting it’s target thanks to the generosity of local people.

The youth club’s building on Crewe Road South was broken into on Tuesday evening. Two men caused damage estimated at £2000 and stole a GoPro camera.

Club leaders said: “The £2,000 we’ll need to spend repairing the damage could pay for half of our summer programme trips for 200 young people. We are feeling pretty disappointed that these 2 would target a youth club, and charity, that helps over 350 local kids every week. We NEVER have any cash on the premises – all our Clubs are FREE and open to any young person who wants to come along. If you hear anything, please let us know and please share.”

The youth club set up an online appeal to raise funds to repair the damage and the community has been quick to respond – £1270 has already been raised and the campaign still has five days to run.

FetLor said this morning: “Our donation page target of £1,000 towards the cost of repairs has been passed in less than 12 hours! 36 of you have donated £1,110 so far and the donations are still coming in! Lots more of you have called to offer help and sent messages of support. Young people have got involved too, they have asked to help fundraise, have worked to get the building back to normal, have asked to help in any way they can … THANK YOU
