Consider IT Christmas!

Yule Regret This: IT firm reveals Remote Control Decorations!

FESTIVE IT experts have kitted out their office with illuminated brash and noisy Christmas decorations – that can be remotely controlled by anyone online. Urging visitors to the webpage to “take control of our office decorations and annoy the team”, the ten-strong group at Consider IT has programmed a range of highly interactive decorations.

This includes a towering six foot illuminated snowman – which can be inflated on command, as well as a speaker that can be activated to play a relentlessly upbeat loop of “Jingle Bells.”

To allow visitors to witness the partly tormented team, a live webcam has been set up and is visible above the on-screen commands that control the decorations. Visitors must queue to get a minute of uninterrupted control.

Stuart Gilbertson, owner and founder of the Edinburgh based IT support company, said: “It’s fair to say the office is split on this, with the Christmas fanatics endlessly amused by the lights, the noise and the joys of the season. The grinches among us are getting more tormented each day, especially when a visitor to the page turns jingle bells on at the same time as inflating Snowy McSnowface the deceptively vocal snowman!”

Last year the team used the popular Raspberry Pi single-board computers to facilitate the control of the festive decorations and received around 20,000 curious visitors to its page.

However, this year the team set themselves the challenge of creating their own entirely bespoke solution – while adding further decorations and commands into the mix.

Stuart added: “While it is very much a fun exercise, the team here has developed significantly in the past year, adding a lot of expertise and IT knowledge. It may seem a huge distraction, but it is a great challenge creating the lights, noises and the commands  – and a very fun way to interact with our clients who can see that we remain hard at work despite their best efforts!”

Consider IT was formed in 2007 by Stuart Gilbertson to provide outsourced IT support to businesses of all sizes tired by poor service while understanding of the critical importance of IT systems. The team prides itself on dealing with situations and supporting clients, with its service level agreement response time at just four hours.

From its base at 17a Graham Street, Edinburgh, the team offers expertise across a diverse range of service from VOIP phone installation, IT consultancy and security, through to disaster simulation and remote backup.
