Edinburgh’s Finance leaders will take to the City of Edinburgh Council’s Twitter account from 6 – 7pm tomorrow (Monday 18 December ) to answer your questions about budget and services. The budget consultation closes on TUESDAY.

Finance and Resources Convener Cllr Alasdair Rankin will be joined by Vice Convener Cllr Marion Donaldson in taking over @Edinburgh_CC as part of a six-week campaign, asking residents to play their part by giving their views on the budget proposals for 2018/19.

Finance and Resources Convener, Cllr Alasdair Rankin, said: “We have a strong track record of effective financial management and since 2012/13 we have saved around £240m by working more efficiently and prioritising our services. However, the financial position for all local authorities, including Edinburgh, remains extremely challenging.

“We’ve had a great response to our engagement already but we are very keen to continue to engage with residents about the proposals and how we can more efficiently deliver services and what the impact of the proposals are on themselves, their families and their community, and to highlight opportunities or challenges they can see. “

Finance and Resources Vice Convener, Cllr Marion Donaldson said: “Over the past five years in our budget engagements residents told us to protect education, care for older people, culture, and services for vulnerable children and adults. These continue to be our priorities.

“It is important that residents know that we are listening and responding to what they have to say so I would again like to encourage residents to share their views on the consultation hub and also take part in the live Q&A on Twitter. We are keen to continue the discussion and answer any questions you might have.”

Anyone who is not available during that time can submit a question in advance by posting it on Twitter using #PlayYourPart.

The wider engagement on changes to council services will close on Tuesday 19 December.
