A real green deal for Leith Primary

Nova Innovation to sponsor school football teams

Nova Innovation, the global leading tidal energy firm based in Leith, have announced a deal to sponsor the local Leith Primary School football teams.  The deal, which will last for a period of up to 5 years, will also see ‘Socks for the Streets’, the homeless charity set up by Leith Primary School pupil Joseph Cox, benefit from a donation.

The sponsorship involves the provision of new football strips for both the p4/5 and P6/7 football teams, and in return football socks will be donated to Joseph’s charity by the football players of Leith Primary School themselves.

On hand to present the strips to the School was local MSP Ben Macpherson, who celebrated the link-up between the locally based business and the Primary School.

The Northern and Leith SNP MSP said: “Nova Innovation exemplifies the best of modern Scottish engineering and the dynamic entrepreneurial activity that there is in Leith – passionate, innovative, sustainable and ambitious, Nova Innovation is a highly impressive company with an admirable social and environmental purpose. They are a genuine global leader in the field of tidal energy development and I’ve been delighted to support them where and when I can, as their local MSP.

“The sponsorship of the Leith Primary School football teams also shows their commitment to their local community and I applaud them for supporting such a fun and worthwhile cause.”

Headteacher of Leith Primary School , Fiona Craig, who accepted the strips on behalf of the School, said: “As a school with strong environmental credentials ourselves we couldn’t think of a better partner to have than Nova Innovation.

“Their support of our after-school football which is so important to the well-being of our pupils is fantastic. I am equally delighted that the football teams themselves, inspired by the community spirit shown by Nova, have decided to donate football socks to Joseph’s charity which is something we are all very proud of.”

Founded in 2010, Nova Innovation has grown rapidly over the last few years: now employing over 30 staff. Nova design, build and operate the tidal energy devices from their base in Leith and are committed to engage with and source from local supply chains and communities wherever they deploy.

Simon Forrest, CEO and Founder of Nova Innovation spoke about why the link-up between the business and the School is so important: “Nova were only too happy to help get involved in supporting this important and inclusive local activity.  It brings together boys and girls and children of different nationalities in playing for their School and for us that is a really worthwhile cause to support. Leith is our company DNA and hopefully our support will help inspire the next generation of local footballing stars”.
