BusinessCar Green Fleet award for Edinburgh College

Edinburgh College — which added two Nissan e-NV200s to its expanding fleet in March — has been awarded the Green Fleet of the Year title at the BusinessCar Awards. Beating off stiff competition from four other nominees, Edinburgh College were crowned champions at a glittering ceremony at London’s Park Plaza Riverbank Hotel.

Edinburgh College has a fleet of 15 electric vehicles — seven of which are Nissan cars and vans — which since 2012 has saved 50 tonnes of CO2 as well as more than £100,000 in fuel costs. In total, the fleet has travelled 250,000 miles, with 45,200 trips and 9,300 bookings by the 600 staff members registered to use the vehicles.

The most recent Nissan additions were supplied by Midlothian Nissan dealership, Alex F Noble & Son, in collaboration with Automotive Leasing, which is working for the Scottish government’s Switched On Fleets scheme.

Alex F Noble & Son not only have a strong partnership with the college through its fleet deals, but also work with the college to provide work experience placements for exchange students, and present an annual engineering scholarship award.

David Noble, Dealer Principal at Alex F Noble & Son Nissan, said: “Alex F Noble & Son has developed an excellent working partnership with Edinburgh College over the years and we’re delighted to see them winning this prestigious award.”

Electric fleet administrator Bob Murphy, who was also nominated in the Fleet Manager of the Year category, collected the prize.

He said: “The award is further great recognition of the EV work done by Edinburgh College and the staff who’ve taken to the cars. We were up against some big players in the category so to walk away with a win is really special. Personally, I’m honoured to have been shortlisted for Fleet Manager of the Year and would like to thank BusinessCar magazine for their recognition.”
