Scottish Children’s Lottery cash for FOTA

Community project Friends of the Award (FOTA) in Edinburgh and the Lothians has been awarded a £2,000 grant from the Scottish Children’s Lottery.

FOTA works in partnership with the City of Edinburgh Council to ensure that the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is accessible to disadvantaged and marginalised young people in the local area.

The project, which is based at Castlebrae High School, supports and mentors 75 young people from areas of multiple deprivation, young carers and those in care, and young people with learning difficulties, mental health issues or behavioural problems, as they participate in Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programmes and, as a result, gain new skills and develop confidence to help them face life’s challenges.

Bob Hope, Chair of Friends of the Award, said: “Support from the Scottish Children’s Lottery allows our young people to take part in their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme alongside mainstream young people, irrespective of their financial position or additional challenges they face.

“On behalf of Friends of the Award and our young people I would like to say a big thanks to the people of Scotland who play the Scottish Children’s Lottery.”

The Scottish Children’s Lottery was launched in October 2016 to raise money for children in Scotland, with proceeds helping to improve the lives of children right across the country and make a real difference to those who need it most.

Trustee Dorothy Fenwick represents Chance to Succeed, which operates as a society lottery under the Scottish Children’s Lottery. Chance to Succeed supports projects that focus on employability and employment skills, helping to deliver a productive future for our young people.

Dorothy said: “I am delighted that we are able to provide funding for Friends of the Award from the monies generated from the Scottish Children’s Lottery, which was established to promote and support the development and potential of children and young people in Scotland.  Thank you to those who play the Scottish Children’s Lottery; you are helping to support the great work that our charities undertake.”
