A popular Edinburgh pub has become one of a handful of pubs from throughout the country to make it through to the finals of a prestigious award scheme.
The Caley Sample Room on Angle Park Terrace is one of just six pubs nationally, and the only one in Scotland, to make it through to the finals of the Great British Pub Awards in the Best Beer Pub category.
The Caley Sample Room, which is run by Nick and Joy Madigan, successfully made it through to the final after two rounds of vigorous judging. It will now be personally inspected by judges before the winner is announced on Thursday 7 September during a ceremony at the London Hilton on Park Lane.
Nick said: “We are thrilled to have got this far and are looking forward to showing the judges what makes The Caley Sample Room so special.
“Everyone who works here is passionate about all things beer. We have friendly and knowledgeable staff who are willing to share their expertise and recommendations with customers and this accolade is great recognition for the hard work they put in.”
The Caley Sample Room has nine real ale pumps, regularly changing to support new microbreweries to the market each week. It has won several awards for the quality of its beer and also boasts a special bottle and can menu, giving customers a broad choice of beers and complementing the food menu.
Judges were particularly impressed with the pub’s attention to detail, from the inclusion of beer within bar snacks and meals down to the men’s toilets, which are made from beer kegs.
