Join Beachwatch this Saturday

Dear All ,

I’m a bit behind saying thank you to everyone for coming last time, never mind invite you to the next one! Thank you!

We had a great event in May. The weather was a bit annoying but this is par for the course it seems. It was great that we’re increasing our numbers each time and of course we got the word out to our local MSP, Ben Macpherson that ocean plastic, litter, recycling, sewage outflow and many other issues need TLC improvement.

We hope that the Have You Got The Bottle? deposit return scheme campaign gains further traction having asked Ben and also Deidre Brock to support it. We also asked a few local establishments if they would be keen to support and got some promising responses. Please read about and help support the campaign yourself and spread the word as and when you can. Also, please obviously support MCS who are all round brilliant! There are amazing resources on the website. MCS Sea Champions go out and about to Schools giving workshops to kids so if you know of a School locally that would benefit, please let us know.

Granton East – Survey 13 May 2017

As a catch up, I attach the data survey (above) from last time in case you didn’t see the social media summaries. Here’s a link to it on the MCS website. 37 of us collected 18 bags of 50.5kg of junk: 63.2% plastic and 28% sanitary waste – eugh.

More news: since last time, the local Council has given us our very own wheelybin of litter pickers and bags, which is very kind. They do a super prompt job of collecting our findings and that’s much appreciated.

For the event on Saturday, which starts at 10:30 and ends at 13:00, you can sign up on the MCS website, or here on facebook, or keep a watch out on twitter for updates. The initial briefing starts at 10:30am. There’s a risk assessment for the event linked here, which you should read please, particularly if you bring little ones. If you could help distribute the attached poster in your place of work or any other venue locally, that would be enormously appreciated.

The event this last Saturday, as part of Fidra’s Great European Nurdle Hunt, was awesome. 25 of us collected 2,400 of the little nasties. Please feel free to tag yourselves in any and all photos on facebook. We are developing a good little team of image makers as well as general helpers. I’m really happy and thankful for all of you joining in.

Lastly, I wonder if people would be interested in a fundraiser at some point (probably in a local public house)? I’ve had an idea about a couple of things we could ask for and raise for, but your suggestions would be great.

See you at 10:30, Saturday? I’m really looking forward to seeing you.

Please forward this to anyone you think might be interested in joining the party. x

With love

Karen
