Man in court following Muirhouse assault and motorcycle robbery

Local Police have confirmed that a 22-year-old man has been arrested and charged following an assault and robbery in Muirhouse Gardens. The incident happened around 7.10pm on Wednesday 1st March, and involved the theft of a motorcycle.

The man appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday.

Inspector Stephen Sutherland of Drylaw Police Station said:  “The theft and illegal use of motorcycle in the North Edinburgh area is completely unacceptable and we will not tolerate this type of criminality across the city.

“As an organisation we are taking proactive steps to tackle motorcycle crime through initiatives such as Operation Soteria and it continues to be a top priority for the division..

“It is a small group of offenders who are acting in this reckless manner, and they are not a reflection of the people who live and work in the area.

“However in order to fully hold those responsible for this behaviour to account we need the support of the local community in North Edinburgh.

“If you are aware of illegal motorcycle activity in your area please report it to Police Scotland.  This can be done anonymously and all reports are treated in the strictest confidence.”

Call 101 for non-emergencies and general enquiries, in an emergency call 999. If you have information about a crime you can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
