Police appeal following attempted robbery in Corstorphine

Police are appealing for information after an attempted robbery in Corstorphine at around 5.45pm on Monday evening.

A 43-year-old woman was walking westwards along Corstorphine Road, just before she reached the junction with Pinkhill, when she became aware of a man walking behind her.

Shortly afterwards on Pinkhill, in the area of Manor Grange Care Home, she was pulled to the ground from behind.

A man attempted to grab her handbag but was unsuccessful and fled northwards on the cycle path towards either Paddockholm or east towards the city centre.

The suspect is described as white, 5ft 11ins – 6ft tall, of slim build and in his early to mid-twenties. He was wearing a dark grey cotton hoodie, a grey scarf or snood pulled up over his mouth and dark grey nylon tracksuit bottoms.

Detective Constable Gavin Howat of Corstorphine CID said: “Thankfully, the woman was uninjured but this was a very distressing incident and we’re conducting a number of enquiries locally.

“We’d urge anyone with information which can help, including anyone who may have seen a man matching this description in the area, to get in touch as soon as possible.

“Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or report this anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
