PoLCATS volunteer for action at seniors event
Port of Leith Housing Association’s (PoLHA) PoLCATS (Port of Leith Community Action Team) lent a hand at the Older Adults event at Meadowbank Sports Centre this week. The event was hosted by Edinburgh Leisure’s Ageing Well project in partnership with the City of Edinburgh Council (CEC) and Pilmeny Development Project (PDP).
Following on from the success of last year’s event for the city’s older adults, the day featured a host of activities and information from a range of services to support fitness and wellbeing.
Around 400 people attended the event, which began with a Big Fit Walk organised by Edinburgh Leisure’s Ageing Well project and colleagues from Active Communities, with three different bronze, silver and gold walks at difficulty levels to suit all participants. The walk was followed by a tea dance in the afternoon kicked off by dance group, 24 Carat Gold.
The PoLCATs acted as marshalls for the walk, handing out prepared lunch packs to participants and distributing medals to those completing the walks. They also served up teas and scones to those attending the tea dance later on in the day.
Claire Ironside, Director of Customer Services at PoLHA, said: “We are committed to helping local neighbourhood activities and projects through PoLCATs. Initiatives like the Older Adults events are a great opportunity for the local community to come together and we were delighted to return to support this year’s event.”
