Einstein comes to Muirhouse!

Billboard art at Muirhouse Libraryein

Muirhouse Library welcomed a distinguished guest yesterday when artist Hans Clausen unveiled a billboard poster of  Albert Einstein, with his quote: ‘The only thing you absolutely have to know is the location of the library’. The public art is the first in a series to be created by the Arcadeum project team.

Hans and artist colleague Lindsay Perth are artists-in-residence at North Edinburgh Arts, based in a former shop unit in Muirhouse Shopping Centre. The pair have been commissioned to create public artworks as part of the development of the new North West Edinburgh Partnership Centre, and the billboard art is just one of a number of initiatives and projects that will be happening over the coming months.

Hans (below) explained: “The Art Billboard is a collaboration between Arcadeum and Muirhouse Library and we’re seeking designs, images and artworks for future billboard posters from local residents and community groups.”

The ‘curatorial’ group is likely to meet next week to select the next images.

The £12 million centre, a joint development between NHS Lothian and the City of Edinburgh Council, will bring increased health and social care services for the local community, including new GP accommodation and additional physiotherapy, podiatry, dentistry and child health services. Work got underway on the site this week.

This ‘arty’ stuff could just catch on: Descartes in Drylaw? Proust in Pilton? Socrates in Silverknowes? You get the picture!
