The Travelling Gallery will embark on another Scottish tour this week with a new spring exhibition in association with the Stills Gallery.

Supported by the City of Edinburgh Council, Creative Scotland and the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, the Travelling Gallery ‘art on a bus’ will feature a highly collaborative project from artists kennardphillipps and Scott Lang.

Here Comes Everybody will explore the power of the image through the use of readily available materials. Using photomontage, digital print, collage and stencils, familiar visuals will be manipulated and their original intentions changed to address important social concerns.

Billboard imagery of London’s slick financial landscape in Canary Wharf will be contrasted against the rough medium of spray paint and stencils. Reflecting street art and gang tag practice, the images will aim to highlight inequality in pay as one of a number of social and political concerns to be addressed in the exhibition.

Demonstrating the importance of collaboration, the display hinges around strong participation with local audiences. Using the same creative processes as kennardphillipps and Scott Lang, participants will have the opportunity to produce artwork which will be incorporated into the Here Comes Everybody exhibition as the tour progresses.

Councillor Richard Lewis, the city’s Culture and Sport Convener, said: “Yet again the Travelling Gallery curators have devised a fascinating exhibition which I am sure will delight crowds across Scotland.

“As a Council we’re committed to making art and culture as accessible as possible to a variety of people, and through supporting this mobile gallery, art is brought straight into the hearts of town centres. I hope everyone takes the opportunity to pay the spring exhibition a visit.”

The Travelling Gallery is a custom-built, mobile, contemporary art space inside a big beautiful bus which brings contemporary art exhibitions and events to schools and communities throughout Scotland.

Glasgow will be the first stop on the gallery’s Scottish-wide tour, which will see the bus stationed in a variety of locations before reaching the Capital between 29 – 31 March.
