‘Scotland is crying out for some big, transformative ideas’ – Common Weal’s Robin McAlpine
Common Weal Director Robin McAlpine will join over 100 Common Weal supporters from across Edinburgh and The Lothians to launch the Common Weal ‘A Book of Ideas’ at City of Edinburgh Methodist Church on Friday evening.
Common Weal is a national “think and do tank” which aims, simply, to make Scotland a better place. There are over 60 local volunteer groups across Scotland, working towards an ‘all of us first’ rather than a ‘me-first’ Scotland. A Book Of Ideas suggests what Scotland can do with our existing powers.
Promoting the book, which was compiled by a team of more than forty researchers, academics and policy experts, Common Weal Director Robin McAlpine said: “The Book of Ideas has been gaining a lot of interest since it was published and we’re being invited all over Scotland to discuss these ideas. The whole point of Common Weal’s approach is that politics is something that anyone can get involved with and discuss. That’s why we’re committed to going to communities to encourage people to think about what kind of Scotland we create over the next five years.
“The book is based on the fact that we’re approaching a Scottish Election next year and that Scotland is crying out for some big, transformative ideas. There are more than 100 big proposals in this book and I’m really looking forward to discussing these with people in Edinburgh.”
Common Weal Edinburgh North and Leith organiser Susan Rae said: “This is a great chance to come together and have the opportunity to work out how some of the ideas could be applied locally. It’ll be a lively and fun evening with mince pies, mulled wine, and live music included in the ticket.”
The launch event will takes place at 7pm on Friday 4 December at City of Edinburgh Methodist Church, Nicolson Square Edinburgh.
