Scheme to be introduced in Easter Drylaw Gardens
Drylaw Telford Community Council and Easter Drylaw Residents Association (EDRA) are to make Easter Drylaw Gardens a No Cold Calling Zone.
Drylaw Telford Community Council chairman Alex Dale explained: “We fully discussed the idea of setting up No Cold Calling Zones within Drylaw Telford at our October meeting and it was agreed to start with a pilot scheme. The chosen area was Easter Drylaw Gardens and this was ratified at EDRA’s AGM on 2 November. It was also agreed that EDRA’s Anne Arnott, who lives in the Gardens, would be ‘Champion’ for that zone.”
The city council supported the community council initiative and supplied information packs and questionnaires which Anne delivered to all Easter Drylaw Gardens residents. The aim was to gauge community support for the scheme – a positive response of 50%+1 of all addresses in favour would see the Zone set up – and the results are in!
Alex Dale continued: “We have now been informed by the officer in charge of Cold Call Zones that they have received 75% back in favour of introducing a Cold Calling Zone and signage to that effect will soon be erected on lamp posts at the four entrances to Easter Drylaw Gardens.”
Easter Drylaw Gardens will be the first No Cold Calling Zone in Drylaw and Telford, but the community council doesn’t plan to stop there and hopes it the first of many.
Alex added: “Drylaw Telford CC and EDRA welcome contact from other areas within Easter and Wester Drylaw and Telford who may wish to set Cold Calling Zones.
