The sky’s the limit for St Columba’s Hospice!

Up, up and away: North Pole here we come – virtually!

Balloon-race

St Columba’s Hospice is taking its fundraising to the skies with an environmentally friendly balloon race. The Hospice is organising a race in which balloons will fly all the way to the North Pole!

People who buy balloons can design the shape, size, weight and décor of the balloon to give it a fighting chance of reaching its snowy destination. The balloon race begins on Monday 30 November at 9am and the balloon that travels the furthest distance will be the winner.

What makes this an environmentally friendly race is that it’s all virtual. Balloons can be bought and designed online for £3 through the Hospice’s website. The balloons are released into the virtual skies and then race to the North Pole – although they will be effected by real-life weather. So if we have bright blue winter skies with a northern breeze over Edinburgh the balloons have a good chance of getting across Scotland. But if it’s pouring with rain and blustery winds then the balloon might not make it over the Forth!

Money raised from the race goes towards providing specialist palliative end-of-life care for patients and their loved ones.
